CISD institutes new rules, fees for Memorial Stadium

COLUMBUS — It’s been more than a trifle to see the new turf field at Memorial Stadium lay its roots — an estimated $1.15 million project cost, including track and pole vault pit renovations — and Columbus Independent School District board of trustees instituted new stadium rules and usage fees to go along with the new amenities at an Aug. 27 special board meeting.

Parents upset after Splashway gun incident; CISD says will look at policies

Construction underway on airport site for medical chopper

COLUMBUS—Construction on a helicopter pad for the medical helicopter PHI Air Medical will station at Robert G. Wells Airport in Columbus was completed last week and full construction on all facilities for the chopper and necessary staff should be completed by the end of the year, County Judge Ty Prause told The Citizen Monday.

Large crowd on hand to honor Osage Cemetery

OSAGE—More than 100 people including elected officials, members of the Colorado County Historical Commission, and descendants of those interred on the grounds gathered Saturday under trees in the small Osage Community Cemetery in northwestern Colorado County to dedicate a marker honoring the cemetery as a Historic Texas Cemetery.

Revised library expansion plans addres parking

Jared Sloan new AD and football coach for Rice

Tariff talks could mean trouble for rice producers seeking new markets

COLORADO COUNTY—As President Donald Trump and his administration talk about new tariffs on foreign-produced goods, particularly involving China, officials with one of the nation’s leading rice producers’ trade groups is concerned about the impact such talks could have on negotiations of a phytosanitary agreement needed to fully open China’s markets to U.S. grown rice.

Court appoints Guthmann as Treasurer

COLORADO COUNTY—The Colorado County Commissioners Court Monday morning filled the vacancy left by the resignation of the interim County Treasurer last December, by appointing Assistant County Auditor Joyce Guthmann to the post following her landslide victory in the March 6 Republican Primary. Guthmann is unopposed in the November general election.

Garwood Elementary kindergarten registration

GARWOOD—Garwood Elementary School will begin registering students for the 2018-2019 kindergarten class April 2.  Registration forms are available in the school office. Return the forms with a copy of shot records, social security card, and birth certificate. These documents are required by the Texas Education Agency. If you don’t have copies you must obtain duplicates. Students must be five years old as of Sept.1, 2018 and live in the Garwood school attendance zone. Alleged iPhone thief nabbed in 15 minutes

COLUMBUS – Henry Charles Willms III, of Spring, is in the Colorado County Jail charged with a variety of state jail felonies after being caught in possession of in excess of $11,000 worth of new iPhones allegedly stolen from Walmart in Columbus — just 15 minutes after the phones were reported stolen early Monday morning.

Start of new East River Bridge on US 90 delayed another year, TxDOT says
