Shirley Marie Girndt Petrosky, 88, of Columbus, Texas, passed away on April 11, 2024 in Columbus.

She was born on Oct. 9, 1935, to Alfred Girndt and Annie (Groda) Girndt in Columbus, Texas. On June 25, 1955, she married Walter William Petrosky.

Shirley worked for Dairy Cone, retiring after more than 35 years. Many people in Columbus knew her as Ms. Shirley because of her work at the Dairy Cone and once she was recognized in Honolulu airport as “the lady who works at the Dairy Cone.”

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Columbus Community Hospital Auxiliary. Volunteering with the “Pink Ladies” was a highlight of her week in her later years.

Shirley enjoyed traveling and even though her first plane ride was when she was 60 years old, she traveled to Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, and many different US States including Hawaii. Shirley enjoyed her potted plants, Avon, and Estee Lauder.

Her ever-present pink lipstick was a requirement, and she was not ready to go anywhere until she had applied that pink lipstick. She possessed a wealth of knowledge in identifying different flowers. She was a great Easter basket maker, filling her grandchildren’s baskets until they were overflowing with flowers, eggs, and candy. Above all, she enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her sons Gregory Petrosky and wife Debbie, Dennis Petrosky and wife Rhonda, and James Petrosky and wife Starlette; grandchildren Simone Petrosky Belota and husband Matthew, Reed Petrosky and wife Emily, and Sean Petrosky; great-grandchildren Felicity, Theodore, Theron, and Barrett Alfred Belota (due in July).

She was preceded in death by husband Walter William Petrosky; parents Alfred and Annie Girndt; sister Aleen Girndt Hanak and husband Joe.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. A parish prayer service and rosary followed at 7 p.m.

Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, Texas. Fr. James Dvorak officiated. Visitation at church was from 9 AM to 10:00 AM.

Burial took place in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus, Texas.
