The Colorado County Sheriff’s Office reported a bank robbery that took place within the County on Aug. 1.
According to information provided by the Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday evening at approximately 7:32 p.m. Colorado County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call on Highway 71 south of Columbus in reference to a reported bank robbery in which a bank employee and her husband had been kidnapped and the husband had shot the suspects.
The Columbus Police Department arrived on the scene first and discovered two subjects with gunshot wounds lying the ground near a pickup that was parked in the east side ditch facing south.
Deputies arrived on scene shortly thereafter, along with Colorado County EMS.
Included in the information provided from the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office, one of the wounded subjects was air lifted to Memorial Hermann in Houston and the other was transported by EMS to the Columbus Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 Billy Hefner.
Information obtained during the investigation revealed that a bank employee, and her husband, had been held at gunpoint by the suspects inside their residence north of Columbus. The victims were then bound, kidnapped and transported to the First National Bank of Eagle Lake in Columbus. The suspects then forced the bank employee to obtain an undisclosed amount of funds. The suspects then directed the victims south on Highway 71 to an undisclosed location.
While traveling on Highway 71 near County Road 101, the husband of the bank employee was able to gain access to a firearm inside the vehicle and fire upon the suspects.
