Schobel Football camp is a winner
By Jacob Truchard, Sports WriterThe third annual Schobel Football Camp took place at Memorial Stadium in Col-umbus Friday, July 11 with a turnout of more than 100 young athletes participating.
Once again Aaron, Matt and Bo Schobel, along with former college football teammates and colleagues, helped to instruct young football players in the fundamentals and techniques to improve their game.
New faces coaching the athletes at the camp this year were Mark Cantu, who played football at Blinn College and John Muether, formerly of Texas Christian University.
Columbus Cardinal head varsity football coach Brent Mascheck said there were over 125 young athletes participating in the camp this year and that the Schobels put together a successful football camp for a third year in a row.
“Matt, Aaron and Bo Schobel did an outstanding job with the camp,” Mascheck said. “They had several former football players down from TCU as well to help instruct the kids.”
Mascheck said he would also like to thank Columbus Ballparks Renovations Inc. Football Complex Committee Chairman Doak Hartley for the work he did behind the scenes to make the camp a success.
Arizona Cardinal Bo Schobel said he, along with the other camp coaches were excited to see such a large group come out to improve their football skills.
“We enjoyed the kids coming out and had a good time coaching again,” Bo Schobel said.
Information and results about the third annual Schobel Golf Classic Tournament and Fundraiser will appear in next week’s The Citizen.
