Tri-County 16-year-olds win big
The Babe Ruth Texas Tri-County 16-year-old All-Star Baseball team won the state tournament at Eagle Pass July 11-13 to move on to the Regional Tournament.
Tri-County won their first game against Eagle Pass 10-5 Saturday, July 12 with Hunter Pinney recording the win from the mound for the All-Stars.
Tri-County won the championship on Sunday, July 13 with a 16-2 win against Eagle Pass. Stephen Appelt was the winning pitcher for Tri-County.
“This is a great example of a complete team victory,” said Tri-County head coach Ken Bigham Jr. “The players demonstrated outstanding hustle and competitiveness, with positive attitudes and support for each other.”
Top hitter for Tri-County was Marty Bigham, 7 for 11, with six runs batted in.
Dallas Ponder, reached base eight times on 10 plate appearances; and Chris Migl, broke a 2-2 tie in the championship on a 350-feet home run over the left field wall. Coaching the Tri-County 16-year-olds are Bigham Jr., Kenneth Ponder and Mike Leopold.
The All-Stars competed in the Babe Ruth 16-year-old Regional Tournament at F. Smith, Ark. July 18-20. The results will appear in next week’s edition of The Citizen.
