Woman killed in accident

A Columbus woman was killed Friday morning, Oct. 3 after her vehicle struck a horse that was in the roadway, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officers.
Monica Calley, 44, was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 90A when the front end of her 1995 Buick struck a horse, according to reports. The accident occurred about 6.7 miles west of Columbus.
She was pronounced dead on the scene by Colorado County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 Judge Richard Luhrs at 7 a.m.
Calley was the only passenger in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt, according to reports.
Responding to the scene were DPS officers and the Colorado County Sheriff's Office.
