CC Habitat applicants are needed

By Staff Reports

Habitat for Humanity organizations throughout the world celebrated as the housing ministry marked a major milestone in November 2008 when construction began on Habitat’s 300,000 house in Naples, Fla.

Colorado County Habitat is among the more than 2,300 Habitat organizations worldwide that have made this milestone possible, having built six houses since its founding in 1996.

With four properties for development in Eagle Lake, CCHFH is seeking new applicant families. On Saturday Jan. 17 a prospective applicant orientation will take place at the Eula and David Wintermann Library at 10 a.m. Families interested in learning about Habitat and how to become a future homeowner partner should attend the orientation. The orientation will cover habitat’s plans for homes in Eagle Lake, the requirements to become a partner family and the application process. The orientation is the first step in becoming a habitat homeowner.

Board President Scott Mattingly commented, “Colorado County Habitat is pleased to have contributed to the 300,000 house achievement for Habitat. And more importantly, we are excited to soon be breaking ground for two new houses in Colorado County - one in Alleyton and one in Eagle Lake.”

Habitat is a worldwide movement that has a presence in nearly 90 countries, including all 50 states in the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico. On average, Habitat for Humanity serves a low-income family somewhere around the world every 10 minutes through new house construction, major house rehabilitation projects and with house repairs. In 2007, Habitat served a record 49,000 families in need.

“Throughout this journey to reach our 300,000 house milestone, so many lives have been changed — from the families who now live in decent homes to the volunteers whose hard work and compassion have helped build them,” said Jonathan Reckford, CEO, Habitat for Humanity International. “We realize we have so much more to do regarding the housing problem worldwide and we’ll continue building upon the momentum that each of these 300,000 homes has helped generate.”

Colorado County Habitat for Humanity is part of this worldwide movement, with the goal to serve the residents of Colorado County. CCHFH is an ecumenical Christian ministry that welcomes to its work all people dedicated to the cause of eliminating poverty housing. Since its founding in 1996, the Affiliate has built six houses - two in Eagle Lake and four in Weimar - providing simple, decent and affordable shelter for six families with 14 children.
