Michelle Banse has been named the new publisher of the Colorado County Citizen.

"We feel Michelle is a perfect choice for The Citizen," said Granite Publications President Dennis Wade. "She's a proven leader at the newspaper with a stellar track record that has distinguished her within our company as a marketing expert, as well as in the newspaper industry."

Banse said she was thankful for the opportunity to lead the newspaper.

"I am humbled and honored by the opportunity to serve the community as the publisher of The Citizen and encourage anyone to call or come by at any time to express your concerns, suggestions and even complaints," Banse said. "This newspaper really belongs to everyone in the community and I welcome the opportunity to visit with you about it. I thank you for reading The Citizen and I persuade you to make it your own."

Wade said Colorado County residents will also benefit from her knowledge of the area.

"She was born and raised in Colorado County," Wade said. "She understands what residents in the expect from their community newspaper."

Banse was born and raised in Weimar, the daughter of Jerome and Kathleen Seidel Banse and granddaughter of Edgar J. and Ida Schindler Banse. She attended St. Michael Catholic School and loved spending time at her grandfather's store, BB&D, where Hudec Service & Supply is now located and following along on his water well service calls.

Banse first joined The Citizen in 2003 and has learned the newspaper industry. She said she was excited to be a part of such a professional team.

She graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos with a degree in psychology. Banse has two children "who are the lights of my life." Her son, Wayne Urban, resides in Round Rock and is engaged to Lisa Merkel. Her daughter, Zoe Urban, is in fourth grade at St. Michael's Catholic School in Weimar and represents the fourth generation in her family to attend the school.

Banse and her family attend St. Michael Catholic Church in Weimar.
