Columbus Volunteer Fire Department recently purchased an ultra-high pressure Hydrus skid unit from HMA Fire. The unit will deliver 20 gallons per minute of premixed water and foam at 1,400 pounds per square inch. The ultra-high pressure suppression system requires two-thirds less water and foam to do the same job as a traditional firefighting unit. The department was able to purchase this unit with an $18,000 grant from the Texas Forest Service. The remaining funds needed came from the public’s generous support of the department’s fundraisers. Pictured with the new unit are Mark Wobus, regional fire coordinator for the Texas Forest Service; Fire Chief Walter Glaeser Jr.; and second assistant fire chief Dwight W. Mazac.
