On Thursday, Aug 17, 2023, Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club member Sam Kana introduced the program guest speaker Jamy Dingler, Volunteer Coordinator for Rice High School All-Sports Booster Club. Jamy is a 1993 graduate of Rice High School, where her son now attends. Jamy highlighted two goals of the Booster Club: First: To raise enough funding to award a scholarship to students participating in at least 3 sports each year during the four years of High School plus completing the service work required. The club gives an average of $8,000 per year in scholarships. Second: To give back to the Athletic programs at Rice tangible things such as equipment that will benefit more than one sport.
Read moreThe Eula and David Wintermann Library in Eagle Lake had another very successful Summer Reading Program. The theme for the program was,“All Together Now”. Programs were held each Wednesday morning at 10:30am from June 7 to July 19. There were 56 students enrolled, books and certificates were given to 29 of those students who achieved the goals set for the program. Funding for the summer program was provided by a Dollar General Grant.

Read moreOn Tuesday, July 11, Deputy Andrew Lopez from the Colorado County Sherrif’s Office joined the Weimar Lions Club at their luncheon meeting. The Lions said Deputy Lopez solely focuses on mental health and has extensive training in crisis management, de- escalation techniques and hostage negotiations. Roughly 11% of calls to the Sherrif’s Office are related to mental health issues, the Lions said.
