The Habitat for Humanity successfully freed yet another person from the burden of mortgage with their unique brand of home-building and shared labor. Mary Ann Cowling of Weimar is the most recent person in Colorado County to benefit from HFH’s crusade. On Aug. 5, Cowling and her loved ones celebrated at the Colorado County HFH office with a symbolic Mortgage Burning Party. A fire pit was made, and Cowling physically burned a paper that represented her financial obligations to her housing that she repaid through “sweat-equity” and the hard work that comes with building a home.

Read moreThe annual Fayettevi l le Schools Reunion will be held on September 17 following the rededication and tour of the Red Building at the Fayetteville ISD Campus at 3 p.m. Start time for the reunion is 4 p.m. at Joe’s Place on the square with a social, meeting, dinner, and music by DJ Aaron from 6 to 10 p.m. A meal of chicken fried steak, grilled chicken breast, potatoes, green beans, salad and dessert will be served.
