Eagle Lake has always been rather mysterious to the traveler. While it’s not a lake for boating and water-skiing, and is not a public lake for picnics and recreation, there was a time when charter trains of revelers came from Houston to the train station at Lakeside. There they disembarked, carried their picnic baskets and dancing shoes, sunbonnets, and fishing poles to have a long day of fun at the lake.
Read moreProlonged dry, windy conditions have prompted the county to declare an emergency burn ban effective last Friday. At the Apr. 11 Colorado County Commissioners Court, County Judge Ty Prause expressed concern about people who have continued to make the choice to burn, despite threatening weather conditions and several days of red flag warnings. The County asks that residents please call the Sheriff’s Office dispatch prior to burning when there is no burn ban in effect but weather and ground conditions are questionable.
