Local students recently participated in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) Essay Contests. Seventh grade students from St. Anthony Catholic School wrote essays on Sam Houston and fourth grade students from Columbus Elementary submitted works on Jose Antonio Navarro. A lot of research, hard work, and creativity went into the finished works which were judged by the membership of the local DRT chapter, Dilue Rose Harris.

Read moreSixteen artists from across Texas, and even Louisiana, will be painting the beautiful scenery in Colorado County this week in the inaugural Paint Texas 2022, sponsored by the Live Oak Art Center. Property owners from Eagle Lake to Zimmerscheidt to Weimar have offered access to the artists who will be competing for $3,000 in prize money. The public can look for “Watch Me Paint” signs on Thursday and Friday or come to the Award Ceremony on Saturday, Mar. 26 at 5:30 p.m. to meet the artists who have painted the town.

Over 40 vendors were in attendance, and the market drew a large crowd. Live music by Josh Buttles, face painting, shaved ice and more were available. The Eagle Lake Farmers and Community Market will take place in downtown Eagle Lake the third Saturday of each month from March through November.
