The Columbus Country Market, “The Big One,” will give away 12 turkeys on Saturday morning, Nov. 27 on the Courthouse Square in downtown Columbus. Participants (18 years of age or older) may enter the drawing and one winner will be picked every 15 minutes starting at 9:15 a.m. There is no charge to enter the drawing and winners need not be present but must check back by 11:45 a.m. to see if they’ve won. For any turkeys not collected by winners by 11:45 a.m., new names will be drawn until all turkeys are given away. There is no charge to enter the drawing.

Seasonal colors have been added to some of the planters and pumpkins have been scattered around.

Read moreThe San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site (SHS), operated by the Texas Historical Commission, opened a new outdoor exhibit last weekend. The Villa de Austin is a collection of newly constructed buildings that recreate the historic aura of the town of San Felipe de Austin, the headquarters of Stephen F. Austin’s Colony in Mexican Texas and the Revolutionary Capital of Texas where the initial war government challenged the Republic of Mexico and President Santa Anna before an eventual Texas declaration of independence. The site hosts an annual fall festival celebrating Stephen F. Austin – the Father of Texas – so this year’s event overlaps with the opening of this impressive new exhibit.
