He was not pleased that Bobbie Gustus was part of the Golf Course Committee seeking the grant. His disdain was that Gustus was part of a group that staged an assault on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Cummings says, “I don’t want to support a traitor to the U.S. Constitution.” This passage leads the reader to assume Gustus was part of a group that staged an assault on the US Capitol Jan. 6. Gustus has stated she was at the protest in Washington DC on Jan. 6, but stated she did not take part in any illegal activities. Furthermore, the statement from Alderman Keith Cummings was as follows: “She’s one of those who went to Washington Jan. 6, so I think we shouldn’t do anything involving her. I’ve seen the videos. Well, I’m only one vote. I would’ve voted for it but she’s a traitor to the United States Constitution.”
