City Secretary Bana Schneider responded quickly with needed answers when it came down to the brass tacks of budgeting for the City of Columbus. A budget workshop meeting took place on Thursday, July 15, at Columbus City Hall, with all members of the council present. Schneider presented the budget and easily outlined the budget to the council and their questions. To say it was easy to put one together is an understatement.

Buddy and Charlene Anderson of Columbus volunteered their time and energies to create the swim team with an eye on eventually being introduced into the school system as a competitive sport. Twenty-two kids signed up for the first year, over 50 kids the second year, and ever since, it has maintained a steady stream of swimmer athletes.

Read moreOn July 15 at approximately 2 p.m., the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Hwy 71 East. According to reports, the vehicle struck an abandoned refrigerator in the middle of the road. As a result of the collision, the vehicle caught fire and was a total loss. Assisting on the scene were Colorado County S.O. and DPS. Fortunately, no injuries were reported at the time.
