Texas gas prices have fallen 1.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $1.87/g today, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 13,114 stations. Gas prices in Texas are 18.3 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 57.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

Set against a backdrop of dark skies and a near full moon, the Fourth of July Fireworks Show at the Colorado County Fairgrounds in Columbus was a dazzling sight. This year’s fireworks did not disappoint the revelers who came out to view bright, magnificently colorful lights along with the whistles and bangs that had many of the children jumping and laughing. The Red, White and Blue theme was woven throughout the fireworks display that seemed brighter than the accompanying moon. Those in attendance practiced social distancing throughout the fairgrounds complex. The fairgrounds were full, and passing cars along Highway 77 pulled over to admire the fireworks. Columbus Chamber of Commerce, the Colorado County Fair Association, H-E-B and Cavender Auto Country sponsored the event.

Many of the older generation who can still remember “back in the day” may not know that the Blue Hole still exists. The old swimming hole, known to many a teenager of yesteryear, seems to show its age – much like the kids who used to swim in its deep, cold waters. The banks are now overgrowing, and the Blue Hole itself seems to be a lot smaller than most would recall. The Blue Hole is located on the grounds of the new Hatari Wildlife Park near Weimar, set to open Aug. 1.
