Columbus Community Hospital has plans for expansion, with the construction of a state-of-the-art Wellness Center for the community. The construction began on the project this month. The Columbus Physical Therapy Clinic will move from the Columbus Medical Clinic building once the Wellness Center construction is completed. This will enable them to expand their services and accommodate their continuous growth. The Wellness Center will feature a Columbus Community Hospital Community Center. The Center will highlight all aspects of wellness, including a teaching kitchen, diabetic classes and an event room. CCH appreciates the continued support of their mission to provide quality health care services to the community.

Read moreCommunity leaders from around the county participated in a virtual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event Monday, Jan. 18. Even though the annual march and church service at St. Paul Methodist Church was cancelled due to coronavirus concerns, the tradition, now in its 28th year, continued virtually. Pastor Joel Usher and Glidden Baptist Church hosted the event. Columbus Police Chief Skip Edman, Columbus Mayor Lori An Gobert, Eagle Lake City Manager Melissa Landin, Eagle Lake Police Chief Federico Garza, Citizen reporter and local minister John Jones, Pastor Dan Pore and Pastor Usher reminded the online audience of the importance of unity and service throughout our community. Beverley McMillian and students of A Brighter Day Child Care had a mini march through the church, inspired by the annual MLK Day marches of the last 27 years. Local musician Robert Sanders played a song he wrote, inspired by King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” Pore recited a portion of King’s famous “I have a Dream” speech. Read moreThe Weimar city council met in regular session on Thurs., Jan. 14 at Weimar City Hall.Council accepted the resignation of Scott Brasher from the Weimar Planning and Zoning Commission and a resolution was added to the minutes for the appreciation of the years of service that Brasher gave to the city. The council then appointed Travis True to fill the vacancy left by Brasher. Kurt Scardino and Brittany Herzik were appointed to the Weimar Economic Development Board.
