Urvine Evelyn Vickers passed from this life at the age of 92 on Aug. 13. She was born near Weimar on Feb. 14, 1928 - a Valentine baby - to Lillie Sophie Mehrens and her husband Urban Rodgers. Lillie Sophie Mehrens died in 1932, leaving Urvine and her older sister Lillian motherless. After their mother’s death, Urvine and her sister Lil went to live with their Aunt, Minnie Mehrens (Wink). Urvine’s earliest schooling was in Glidden, but in time the girls commuted with their Aunt to attend school in Columbus. Urvine and her sister were both Columbus High School cheerleaders. Urvine said, “I started high school the year WWII began, and I graduated the year it ended.”

Survivors include his son, Ric Stephen Fleming, of Raleigh, North Carolina; his sister Kaye L. Frey and brother-in-law Earl D. Frey of Cat Spring; two nieces, Kimberly L. Stanley and Kristy L. Peikert; and one nephew, Cameron B. Frey.
