She attended Texas Women’s University in Denton and it was there that she met her best friend Caramae Simmons and that fond relationship remained loyal and true for over 60 years.

Al graduated from Libby High School (Toledo) in 1955. Attending Colgate University (Hamilton, NY) on an academic scholarship, Al graduated with a degree in Geology in 1959. While at Colgate, Al played football and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. After graduation, Al played football for the Houston Oilers from 1960 to 1962, where he was team captain and an All-Pro Selection. Al’s football career ended due to a severe back injury. Following his football career, he was a sports talk radio personality in Houston.

Poehlmann at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg. Her paternal grandparents were founding members of the church. On July 21, 1946 Marjorie was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church by Pastor Paul S. Fisher.
