Raymond Edward Zajicek (Mr. Ray) of Columbus passed away peacefully at home Jan. 22, 2021 at the age of 94. Raymond was born Feb. 15, 1926 to Fred and Johanna (Janish) Zajicek in Fayetteville. He attended school in Fayetteville until he quit to go to work.

Margaret is survived by her sister Martha Sue Knesek and husband John Knesek of Columbus, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Margaret is preceded in death by her father William Guy Houser, mother Sivela “Putt” Jordan Houser, husband J.W. Golla, and siblings Harold Jean Houser, James T Houser and Kay Berry.

Mary graduated from Alvin High School and attended University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton. She and her first husband farmed rice in the Eagle Lake area while raising their two children. In Eagle Lake, she taught Sunday school at First Presbyterian Church and owned and managed a children’s boutique named Buttons and Bows. After her divorce, she married Neil Jenkins and moved to Texas City, where she managed a fabric store and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church.

Read moreGlenda S. Siewert, 77, of Columbus, died unexpectedly of COVID-19 in Methodist Hospital Jan. 7, 2021. She was born July 10, 1943 in Eagle Lake, the daughter of John Allen Speck and Evelyn Mae Speck. Glenda graduated from Rock Island High School, class of ‘61. Following graduation, she attended Cosmetology School in Houston and earned her practicing license. In 1962, she married Horst Siewert and they celebrated 58 years of marriage last fall. Their careers took them to Houston, Colorado Springs CO, Shreveport LA, San Jose CA, and eventually settled in Columbus, where she opened her own salon, Trimmer’s Den, and Merle Norman Cosmetics. She was a member of Rock Island Full Gospel Church. Her hobbies included oil painting and attending Community Bible Study. She fiercely loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
