The Rice Raiders’ varsity football team didn’t have to wait long to avenge their opening- night loss to Luling last week. After just falling short offensively in that matchup, the Raiders found their offense in Houston when they traveled to face the Kashmere Fighting Rams and eventually took their first victory of the season with a 28-7 final margin.

That’s exactly what they did in Friday’s match against Kountze on Sept. 2. Rice got to display some of their offensive improvements to start the match against the Kountze Lady Lions. However, they couldn’t turn their scoring into big wins as they eventually fell to their opponents in a sweep defeat.

Weimar struggled against an attack that featured a Lady Lion that picked up over 30 kills in the match as both teams had highly effective offenses.

Read moreThe Columbus varsity volleyball team traveled to Foster High School late last week to compete in the Battle of the Brazos tournament that featured appearances from bigger 5A and 6A schools. The Lady Cards got some great performances not only as a team on that stage, but individually as well. Sage Thomas and Ember Mandola claimed All-Tournament honors, while Ally Tribe finished as the tournament MVP. Those individuals were a big factor in the team finishing the tournament as undefeated champions.
