Read moreAleah Conejo is no newbie when it comes to sports, however she will be new when it comes to being an athlete at Rice High School. This August 2022, Aleah will be a freshman going into ninth grade and plans to be involved in multiple sports. At the age of four, Aleah became part of the Rice Little League T-ball team and at five she began playing soccer. With going into high school and having many options when it comes to sports, Aleah plans to do nearly all sports, aside from golf. Aleah will be going into Rice High School Aug. 10 on her first day as a high schooler with a new start, but she will not be alone. In addition to her starting this new journey, some of her new coaches will be new to it all as well, as Rice has received some coaches, including a new athletic director, Coach Dumont. Becoming a Lady Raider Rice High School begins class Aug. 10, and this will be the start of a new journey for Aleah and many more. Aleah states that this year she will “participate in mostly all sports, besides golf.” These sports include volleyball, basketball, track and possibly tennis.

Read moreThe Weimar Vets hosted the Jackson County Thunder at Strickland field Sunday for the first round of the community league playoffs. The Thunder scored a run in the first, but the Vets tallied four in the bottom to take the lead. A run in the fifth got the Thunder closer, but scoring in the sixth, seventh and eighth gave the Vets a run-rule victory with a 12-2 win.

Read moreThe Columbus Little League Junior girls have gotten off to a fantastic start in their quest for the Little League World Series title. Shortly after winning their regional tournament, the team flew out to Kirkland, Washington to compete in the LLWS starting with pool play to decide each team’s seeding for the elimination rounds. With wins in their first two games, Columbus is in a great position to be able to give themselves a high seed for the knockout portion of the tournament that begins later this week.

Games begin on Aug. 5 with the Championship game scheduled for Aug.9.
