The Columbus 7 on 7 football summer team qualified for the state tournament that featured many nearby rivals and schools. The Cards found success in the group stage of the tournament before winning the first round of the elimination bracket. However, Columbus’ state title dreams were cut short after falling in the second round by a small margin.

A familiar face in the community got an opportunity to compete for collegiate glory in this year’s college baseball playoffs. Columbus alumni Marcus Olivarez showed his skill and earned a spot to contribute to the University of Texas’ postseason run. He played a vital role as a relief pitcher for the Longhorns before their season was cut short at the hands of longtime rivals Texas A&M College Station. Lady Cards fans may recognize that name for good reason as Marcus is the older brother of standout softball alumna Molly Olivarez.
