A few youth Weimar Little League teams were in action over the past week as they attempted to climb through the bracket and take district championships. Unfortunately for Weimar, they could not find much of the success they were hoping for as many teams would bow out of their competitions early.
Read moreLocal youth athlete Sadie Bradford contributed to a huge performance by her select team, 12 Adidas, in the Indianapolis-hosted Nationals tournament for club volleyball. Their select team had an incredible outing during the tournament. They went undefeated over all four days of the tourney, winning 11 straight to claim the championship. The team was truly dominant throughout the tournament as they lost only four sets of their 26 played.

The Cards found success in the group stage of the tournament before winning the first round of the elimination bracket. However, Columbus’ state title dreams were cut short after falling in the second round by a small margin.

After several strong individual times, the CATfish secured second place as a team to finish the season with another top finish.

A familiar face in the community got an opportunity to compete for collegiate glory in this year’s college baseball playoffs. Columbus alumni Marcus Olivarez showed his skill and earned a spot to contribute to the University of Texas’ postseason run. He played a vital role as a relief pitcher for the Longhorns before their season was cut short at the hands of longtime rivals Texas A&M College Station. Lady Cards fans may recognize that name for good reason as Marcus is the older brother of standout softball alumna Molly Olivarez.
