Read moreDuring the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Legislative Council meeting on Wednesday morning June 17, Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt announced the UIL’s ban on live video broadcasts for regular-season broadcasts of high school Friday night football games would be lifted for the upcoming 2020 season. “Friday nights in Texas are a community event, as is fundraising for multiple organizations that take place at a football game on Friday. We believe that should be protected,“ Breithaupt said. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty about fans being allowed into sports stadiums in the fall prompted the decision.
Read moreColumbus Garden Club began a scholarship program 20 years ago with the first scholarship being presented for the 2001- 2002 school year. The 2020-2021 scholarship recipient, Lena Olivera Perez, met last week with the president of Columbus Garden Club Debbie Braden and the scholarship committee chairman Ericka Braun to talk about her college plans. Lena will be attending University of Texas in Austin in the fall and majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Psychology. She is the daughter of Lisbety Perez. She also enjoyed being in the Spanish Club and Science Club.

Vicente will pursue a degree in biomedical sciences in order to enter pharmacy school and become a Pharmacist.
