NEW BRAUNFELS – The Weimar varsity football team is hoping to return to the playoffs this season after making several improvements across the board due to their increased experience. They are hoping their first game of the season is indicative of their potential this year after dominating on the way to a 53-6 victory over the John Paul II Guardians.

Despite being the only 2A team represented, the girls’ varsity team had one of the best days of all the teams as they finished in second place overall after several top performances.

The boys’ team finished in second place overall after several runners finished in the top 10. As the reigning district champs look to defend their title, they will also be looking to continue their progress throughout the season.

The experience of the Raiders’ returning players showed in a big way as they dominated the Luling Eagles in a 43-6 win and avenged their season-opening, home loss to the Eagles last season.

The girls’ team has already begun to stand out as they consistently put up top performances in their appearances. Their most recent meet was another example of that as every Lady Card that competed placed in the top 20 with two runners finishing in the top five.

After winning a few of their opening matches in the home-hosted Rice varsity tournament, the Lady Raiders struggled a bit in the rest of the tourney with a 1-6 record the rest of the way.

Their most recent tournament even included some 6A teams as the Lady Cards battled to take fifth place in the LCISD-hosted competition. Columbus claimed fifth place out of 40 teams after their performance with Ally Tribe being named to the All-Tournament team.
