RAIDERS TAKE DIFFICULT BACK-TO-BACK LOSSES

The Rice-hosted ‘Swamp Strength 1.0’ marked the first of several competitions to be held this season at the school. Lifters in the county got off to a hot start as each school had top performers and placements at the conclusion of the meet.

Rice has been having those same difficulties all district season as they have yet to get their first district win of the season. After a difficult offensive performance in the first game of the week against Edna, the Lady Raiders got a better performance against Industrial despite still falling in a big deficit.
Read moreThe Columbus varsity lady hoops team has not lost many games this season and has not lost in five tries since their two losses in a late-December tournament. In the five games since their last loss to Houston Christian, the Lady Cards have averaged over 55 points per game while holding their opponents to just under 34 points per game. These big wins include their victories last week as Columbus defeated Tidehaven on Tuesday and then Palacios at home on Friday night.

The three-point shot was a big weapon for the Cards once again over the past week as they used some big performances from Cristian Reyna and Trace Braden to take back-to-back wins over Tidehaven and then Palacios.

They have not lost a game in four tries and made a big step toward their goal of becoming district champs after a tough win against Industrial. The Cards continue to field one of the best offensive attacks in the district led by the potent trio of Trevor Berger, Colton Pitchford and Cristian Reyna who has developed into a certified threat this season.
