The Weimar Wildcats’ varsity football season came to an end last week as they faced off against the Flatonia Tigers. Weimar found some success in the ground game as they had one of their best offensive outings of the season. However, Flatonia had some strong offense of their own as they ran out to a 64-27 victory to send Weimar into the off-season.

After sweeping 12 straight district opponents, Columbus dropped a single set against Yoakum. The Lady Cards promptly finished their opponents off in the following two sets as they completed an unbeaten week that started earlier in the week with a win against Palacios.

The Cards entered the game coming out of their first loss of the season the prior week. However, they hope the rest they get this week as well as the confidence they gained in their 35-12 blowout over Yoakum are two elements that can help them as they head into the postseason.
Read moreThe playoff-bound Weimar Ladycats spent the majority of this district season battling and jockeying for position amongst the leading teams in the district. They fought though two of their final tests of the regular season last week when they hosted Louise for a Saturday game and then took a trip to Shiner the following Tuesday, Oct. 18. After the win against Louise, the Ladycats went on to lose two in a row to end the season against Shiner and then Schulenburg.

Read moreThe varsity volleyball regular season is just about over as many teams prepare to play their final games this week. Many teams will continue their seasons into the playoffs, but many more teams will be hanging up their uniforms and pads until next season comes around. The Rice Lady Raiders fall into the latter category, and that result has been clear for a while already. These final games were of great importance in terms of team development, but not so much in terms of winning or climbing the district standings. While their final match against Edna hadn’t been completed by the time of publication, the Lady Raiders headed into that match after suffering back-to-back losses last week to Tidehaven and then Hallettsville.
