Columbus Track results from Area Meet

The Columbus Cardinals and Lady Cardinals traveled to Rice Consolidated High School to compete in the Area Meet and try to punch their ticket to the Regional Meet.

It has been an exciting season up to this point so let’s jump right in and see who will still be representing Columbus at the Regional Meet.

Cards

Starting int he 400m race Xavier Woods was the first Cardinal to qualify for the Regional Meet. Only the top four runners in the race qualify for the Regional Meet and Woods came in 3rd with a time of 51.94 seconds.

Next was Elijah Owen in the 800m race and he qualified for the Regional Meet by coming in 4th place. He posted a time of two minutes and five seconds and now joins Woods on the Regional Meet lineup.

The 4x200m relay team also qualified for the Regional Meet by coming in 4th place. The team of Braylon Fisher, Giovanni Martinez, Brennan Hicks and Bryan Salazar posted a time of one minute and 30 seconds.

In the 4x400m relay the Cardinals once again came in 4th place to qualify for the Regional Meet. The team of Rylan Carruthers, Elijah Owen, Xavier Woods and Brennan Hicks posted a time of three minutes and 29 seconds.

Lady Cards

The Lady Cards did not find themselves as lucky as now of their runners ended up qualifying for the Regional Meet.

In the 100m dash Katlyn Torres was the only Lady Card in the race and she came in 6th place with a time of 13.02 seconds. Next was Chloe Ross in the 3200m race and she also came in 6th place with a time of 13 minutes and 17 seconds.

In the 4x100m the team of Shacherin Ruiz, Lexi Kulhanek, Taylor Morrow and Katlyn Torres came in 5th place. They posted a time of 50.84 seconds and missed out on 4th place by only.70 seconds.

In the long jump Lexi Kulhanek came in 6th with a jump of 15 feet and 11.75 inches. In the shot-put Andreanna Shropshire came in 7th place with a throw of 31 feet and eight and a half inches.

The Cards will be back in action next week as they enter the Regional Meet, looking to punch their ticket to the State Meet later this month.
