More details have been revealed regarding the car accident by the Colorado River April 9, including the identity of the driver who was later found to have an active warrant out for his arrest.
Ryan Parks, 36 of Canyon Lake, was taken into custody on the scene of the incident that evening at 7:25 p.m. after Columbus Volunteer Fire Department volunteers aided Colorado County Sheriff’s Office officials in transporting two deputies to “pick a man up and bring him back to Beason’s Park.” The CCSO responded to a car accident near Hwy 90 and the East River bridge but upon arriving at the scene, discovered the vehicle was high-centered and unoccupied.

Deputies immediately searched the nearby area when witnesses notified them that a man was seen leaving the vehicle travelling north in the brush along the river.
The man, later identified as Parks, was located upriver by deputies and other officers on the scene.
Deputies could not access his location by ground due to the uneven and steep terrain, dispatching the CVFD to the scene to assist with their rescue boat to gain access to Parks’ location.
The rescue boat, donated by Todd Barten and Morgan Barten, helped the CVFD respond to the call for assistance by Colorado County law enforcement demonstrating how vital the boat is to the CVFD’s fleet or vehicles.
“We’re proud to stand ready, on land or water, whenever our community needs us,” said the CVFD. “We’re immensely grateful for the support that keeps us equipped and ready to respond.”
Once Parks was escorted back to land by boat, it was determined he had an active warrant through Pardon and Parole of Texas. Parks was taken into custody on the scene without incident.
