Community Connections Day, Health Fair and Country Market set for April 26

The Colorado County Courthouse Square will be busy this coming Saturday, April 26, as the Wellness Council hosts its annual Health and Wellness Fair, the Colorado County Habitat for Humanity hosts Community Connections Day and the Columbus Country Market hosts its 2nd Big Country Market of the year.

The events will all kick off Saturday morning at 9 a.m., featuring a wide variety of activities to participate in as well as opportunities to assess your health.

The Health Fair hosted by The Wellness Council of Greater Colorado Valley in collaboration with the Habitat’s Community Connections Day, will include kids vision screenings, blood glucose tests, blood pressure tests, heart rate pulses, rapid A1C tests, posture checks, temperature checks, height, weight and BMI tests and spinal screenings.

All the tests are free, with anyone and everyone invited and welcome to attend. Free transit rides will be available to the public as well. Call 800-5481068 to schedule ahead or call 713-302-5331 on the day of the event. The event will go on until 1 p.m.

A blood drive will also be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in honor of Wylie Alley, an area resident, who was diagnosed with a rare skin disorder and has been receiving blood and platelet transfusion treatments at the Texas Children’s Hospital.

The drive will take place in the parking lot by the courthouse coordinated by the Donor Coach. Successful donors will receive an IHOP coupon and a “Let’s Go” t-shirt.

The CCHFH will also host their Community Connections Day in conjunction with the Health and Wellness Fair that same day, offering facepainting, scavenger hunt art, a stage with demonstrations, birdhouse building, info on local groups and food and drinks for sale.

The event encourages local support of civic organizations, youth groups, nonprofits, churches and businesses.

The Columbus Country Market, running all through November, takes place every last Saturday of the month, kicking off at 9 a.m. and lasting until noon. The market features vendors from all over the area, selling food products, clothing, miscellaneous items, jewelry and more.
