VIEWPOINT OF A TEXAS CHALLENGE ACADEMY CADET
I was born north of Conroe, Texas but now live in a town called Yorktown. I was homeschooled, so I didn’t really get a lot of help with school, and I struggled a lot. My least favorite subject is math.
My favorite subject is English because we can read, which is something I am good at and enjoy. In fact, here at TCA, we get to read a lot, which passes the time. We have a big library with lots of books so we can find ones that interest us.
I came here to TCA to get away from home and to study and earn my GED. I come from a family of nine. I have two nieces and a nephew, and one of my sisters is having another baby in October. My mom has adopted eight girls, so being in a bay full of girls is not that hard for me. Everyone has her own personality and background, so it does take patience.
Besides reading, one of my favorite things to do is drill. I do like marching and when all of the girls work together, it is something fun to see and do. But there are also challenges. One of the biggest challenges for me is not being able to just go outside when I want to.
It is very hard to find alone time as we have to be supervised and there are obviously more girls than team leaders. So, when the drama heats up in the bay, it takes patience to deal with.
When I get back home, I know that I will be stronger and more patient and will have the ability to get a good job and make a good living. I am glad for the opportunities TCA has given me and look forward to my next steps in life.
