Results for Cardinals from the Regional Meet

The Columbus Cardinals traveled to Seguin to compete in the Regional Meet to try to secure a spot in the State Meet.

Unfortunately, the Cardinals were not that fortunate as none of their runners qualified for the State Meet.

Despite this the Cards still had a solid performance and even set a couple of personal records. Starting int he 400m prelims Xavier Woods came in 9th place for the Cardinals to start the day.

The top eight runners from the heat go to the finals and Woods came in 9th place. He set a new personal best with a time of 53.48 seconds and was only a second behind qualifying for the final heat.

Next in the 800m Elijah Owens ran in the finals and also came in 9th place. He finished with a time of two minutes and nine seconds, which was a new personal best, and like Woods he was also one second behind 8th place.

Next was the team of Braylon Fisher, Brennan Hicks, Giovanni Martinez and Woods ran in the 4x200m relay prelim heat. They came in 7th in the prelims with a time of one minute and 32 seconds which earned them a spot in the 4x200m finals.

In the 4x200m finals Fisher, Hicks, Martinez and Woods came in 6th place which did not earn them a spot at the State Meet because only 1st and 2nd place qualify. They finished with a time of one minute and 31 seconds, one second faster than their prelim time.

In the 4x400m relay prelim heat the team of Rylan Carruthers, Elijah Owen, Martinez and Jack Schobel came in 5th place in the prelim to qualify for the finals. They finished with a time of three minutes and 31 seconds.

In the 4x400m finals Carruthers, Owen, Martinez and Schobel came in 3rd place with a time of three minutes and 31 seconds again for a nice dose of consistency to end the Regional Meet. Still on the outside looking in as far as qualifying for State but a very strong showing from the Cardinals none the less.

With the conclusion of the Regional Meet comes the conclusion of the Cards track season. The Cards obviously would have liked to be running at State but there are still a ton of positives from this season that the team can build on next season.
