The Columbus Lady Cardinals are starting their playoff journey this week but not before nine of their players were recognized for their efforts on and off the field.

To be selected to the Academic All-State team players need to be contributing members of the team on the field but also a model student in the classroom.

Players need to maintain a 3.7 GPA or higher which is not easy given these athletes have a packed schedule. They go to school all day then go to practice after school, some of them have a job outside of school and then of course they have possibly every high school student’s favorite thing, homework.

So, these kids are under a lot of stress to say the least but there was nine Lady Cardinals who performed well enough to be selected to the team.

Mia Post and Taylor Morrow were selected to the second All-State team and these two are a big part of the Lady Cards team. They are big time hitters and play huge roles on the defensive side of the ball.

They are also maintaining a 3.7 GPA or higher but there are seven more Lady Cards who were also selected.

A mix of players and managers were selected as Honorable Mentions for the Academic All-State team. Ellie Brown, Molly Garcia, Sydnie Shepard, Jillian Miksch, Ella Berger, Abigail Wiggs and McKenna Booker were all listed as Honorable Mentions for the Academic All-State team.

These ladies, like their teammates handled their business on and off the field. While they were listed as Honorable Mentions they still did the work to be selected to the team and deserved to be highlighted for their athletic and academic work.

Congratulations to all of the Lady Cards selected, now they have their sights set on their playoff journey in front of them.

Abigail Wiggs was selected as an Honorable Mention for the Academic All-State team.
