The Rice Raiders traveled to Seguin to compete in the Regional Meet at Matadors Stadium where they could secure a spot at the State Meet.
Two Raiders earned their way into the State Meet and both of them were crowned Regional Champ.
The first was Jael Valles Serrano who ran in the 800m race, and he came in 1st place with a time of two minutes and three seconds. Valles Serrano has been a big-time performer all season long for the Raiders and he will make his way back to the State Meet to represent his school.
The second State Qualifier was RJ Myers in the shot-put event; an event Myers has dominated all season long. He was crowned Regional Champion with a throw of 57’6” and his throw was only one inch further than second place. aValles Serrano and Myers both will be traveling to Austin soon to compete int he State Meet to represent the Raiders. The Raiders, however, also had some strong performances from runners that did not qualify for the State Meet.
In the 1600m the duo of Payton Englebrecht and Jake Morales were on the track for the Raiders and came in 12th and 13th place respectively. Englebrecht finished with a time of four minutes and 53 seconds and 58 milliseconds behind him was Morales who set a personal record with a time of four minutes 53 seconds and 59 milliseconds.

In the 3200m Englebrecht and Lance Dingler were the runners for the Raiders, and they came in 11th and 13th place respectively. Englebrecht finished with a time of 10 minutes and 38 seconds, Dingler finished with a time of 11 minutes and 11 seconds.
In the 300m hurdles for the boys Tamarion Turner came in 5th place in the prelims with a time of 42.64 seconds to earn a spot in the finals. In the finals of the 300m hurdles he came in 8th place with a time of 44.80 seconds.
In the girls 300m hurdles Fallan Wied came in 5th place in the prelims with a time of 49.82 seconds to qualify for the finals. In the finals she came in 4th place with a time of 48.16 seconds.
In the 4x200m relay prelims the team of Brayden James, Keundric Pratt, Jace Upson and Isaiah Castillo finished in 5th place with a time of one minute and 31 seconds to qualify for the finals. In the finals the 4x200m relay team came in 8th place with a time of one minute and 36 seconds.
In the 4x400m relay prelims Jon Woods, Upson, Arrington Jenkins and Castillo came in 4th place with a time of three minutes and 30 seconds qualifying for the finals. In the finals the team once again came in 4th place with a time of three minutes and 32 seconds.
Finally, in the discus and pole vault event the duo of Dyren Johnson and Gabe Barrios competed in those events respectively. Johnson came in 6th place in the discus event with a throw of 149’7” and Barrios came in 7th place in the pole vault event with a jump of 12’6”.
The Raiders will be back on the track when they travel to Austin next week to compete in the State Meet.
