Jennifer Owens, Executive Director, was presented with these certificates. The certificates are issued in recognition of proper display and respect for the Flag of The United States of America. This recognition is for the month of May.

We took this opportunity to call attention to the upcoming 250th Anniversary of the United States of America. In 2026 the USA will celebrate 250 years. In April of 1776, the Battle of Lexington and Concord took place. This battle ultimately became known as the “shot heard around the world” from the Ralph Waldo Emerson poem of the same name.

These were discussed with the attendees, and we left them about two dozen US Bicentennial Postage Stamps commemorating the Battle of Lexington and Concord and about three dozen copies of the US Flag Code.

In attendance at this ceremony were members of the DAR, SAR, and the Boys and Girls Club of Champion Valley – Columbus Club, Texas. Approximately 40 children and staff participated. At closing the children led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

The mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Champion Valley is “to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”
