With great excitement, Jessica Caird announces her candidacy for Justice of the First Court of Appeals, Place 5. Jessica has an impressive background in public service and legal experience. With 26 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Harris County, she has dedicated her life’s work to securing justice for Texans.
As an appellate attorney with 19 years of experience specializing in juvenile and criminal law, Jessica has handled a wide range of cases, including criminal and civil cases from various courts. She has litigated before local courts in Harris County, the Texas Courts of Appeals, the Court of Criminal Appeals, the Texas Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court. Jessica’s extensive experience and expertise will undoubtedly serve her well as a Justice on the First Court of Appeals, Place 5.
Since October 2021, Jessica has been a supervisor in the Harris County District Attorney’s Appellate Division with responsibility for 13 Assistant District Attorneys handling approximately 240 appellate cases per year. Jessica shares her decades of experience with attorneys at all levels of the District Attorney’s office by advising on everything from misdemeanor cases up to and including matters handled by the elected District Attorney.
As Justice of the First Court of Appeals, Place 5, Jessica will continue her service to the people of Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Harris, Waller, and Washington Counties. Jessica’s dedication to justice, her passion for learning, and her willingness to share her knowledge and experience make her an obvious choice for Justice of the First Court of Appeals, Place 5.
A native of Dallas, Jessica graduated from American University with a degree in English Literature. Jessica earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center.
