The Columbus Cardinal tennis team is preparing to compete in the Regional tournament on Wednesday, May 7, and Thursday, May 8, at Jourdanton High School.
Two of the Cardinals tennis teams will be competing, one in the mixed doubles category and the other in girls’ doubles.
The mixed doubles team is made up of the duo of Camdon Pitchford and Caylie Neisner. Pitchford is more known for his work on the football field and Neisner is more known for her work on the volleyball court.
But both of these athletes are talented tennis players in their own right too. The duo recently won the District Championship together and now look ahead to the Regional Tournament.
“They were the number one seed in the (district) tournament, and they played like it, winning all their matches in two Sets.” Columbus head tennis coach Mike Albers said.
The girls’ doubles team consists of Kyndal Kuhn and Lexi Kulhanek were District Runner-Ups at the District Tournament. They got close to winning the District Championship in their bracket but fell just short, the good news is they will also be competing in the Regional Tournament.
“Kyndal and Lexi really fought hard in their playback match, winning 6-3 and then winning the 2nd set in a tiebreaker, 7-1,” Albers said.
The Columbus tennis team is looking to add to the ever-growing trophy case at Columbus High School by bringing home some hardware from the Regional Tournament.
