Ladycats place 5th at State Golf Tournament

The Weimar Ladycats traveled to the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin to compete in the State Golf Tournament.

The Ladycats finished in 5th place to cap off their season and even had two golfers finish in the top five with their individual scores.

Samantha Lichnovsky came in 3rd place for the Ladycats after she shot an 80 on the first day and a 78 on the second day. She was awarded a beautiful and shiny bronze medal for her efforts but not too far behind her on the score card was her teammate.

Taylor Smith came in 4th place for the Ladycats after she shot a 74 on the first day and a 85 on the second day. The Ladycats head golf coach Cory Morrison said that both of these girls are seniors, and their presence will be missed next season.

Morrison said the team drove up on Sunday, April 27, and the team was able to squeeze in a practice round that helped the team tremendously.

“They are very diligent with their work, when we played that practice round the girls were taking notes about where hazards are, where the traps are and the good thing about that is there were no surprises,” Morrison said.

He said that while there were no surprises there was still a good bit of adversity the Ladycats had to deal with on the course but overall, he thought his team handled it all really well.

“There were some very challenging holes at that course and every team struggled. It’s different greens and different landscapes but I thought our girls did an excellent job of dealing with all of those things and I think they feel pretty good about how they performed as well,” Morrison said.

Cheyenne Booker and Harley Thornhill also competed for the Ladycats at the State Tournament. Booker shot a 119 on the first day and a 109 on the second, Thornhill shot a 118 on the first day and 110 on the second.

Morrison said the experience that Booker and Thornhill have received on the golf course these past two years are going to be invaluable to the team moving forward.

“They have seen the course now, like last year they went up to Regionals but did not make it to State but this year they went back and played a great round and made it to State,” Morrison said. “I am hoping that this experience helps them slide into those leadership roles that Samantha and Taylor are leaving behind.”

Congratulations to the Ladycats on a great season capped off by coming in 5th place at the State Tournament.
