The Columbus Aquatic team, or CATfish, held their tryouts for their upcoming season on Wednesday, April 30, to welcome in new members of the team.
The City of Columbus is kind enough to allow the CATfish to use the pool for their season and always have their door open for anyone looking to join the team.
The tryout itself was more of a way for the coaches to get a baseline, getting a good idea of their strengths and weaknesses. The older kids that were trying out swam the full length of the pool from the shallow end to the deep end while the younger kids swam a shorter distance.
It gave the kids a sense of what they would be doing if they made the team with every kid being asked, “Do you think you could do that every day?” which was met with wide eyes followed by determined smiles.
Every kid that tried out made the team in accordance with their age and they will do the same drills they did at the tryouts again in a couple of weeks. This time they will be timed and they will be given an opportunity to see just how much they have improved in a short period of time.
The CATfish will be practicing Monday-Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting of course at the Columbus City Pool. They are working towards being prepared for their Mock Meet which is scheduled for May 31 at 8 a.m.
