Cardinals eliminated in the Bi-District Round

The Columbus Cardinals traveled to Seguin to take on the Goliad Tigers in a three-game series in the Bi-District round.

Game one was played on Thursday, May 1, game two and three were supposed to be on Friday, May 2, but a thunderstorm postponed the game until Saturday, May 3.

Vs. Goliad, L, 4-0

In game one of the series the Cardinals offense struggled to find a rhythm and only recorded four hits in the game. Brody Tribe, Wyatt Tipton, Parker Meyer and Devin Oppermann all recorded a hit in game one but that was all the offense the Cards would see.

Goliad opened the scoring in the top of the second inning where they scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead early. Goliad’s defense continued to keep the Cardinals offense off the scoreboard and the game sat at a 2-0 score until the 7th inning. Goliad added two more runs to their lead in the top of the 7th inning to make the score 4-0 and that was the last run scored in the game. Defensively the Cards played well enough to win the game unfortunately their offense just could not get out of the hole they were in early in the game.

The Cards defense was led by Tipton and Cade Neumann who shared responsibilities on the bump in game one. Tipton pitched six of the seven innings in game one and struck out eight batters while giving up two runs on six hits. Neumann came in relief in the 7th inning, and he gave up two runs on two hits.

@ Goliad, L, 8-1

Game two was more heartbreak for the Cards as they were eliminated from the playoffs after an 8-1 loss. The Cardinals opened the scoring in the top of the 3rd inning after Ryan Carter hit a double, followed by a sacrifice fly ball hit by Brody Tribe to bring Carter home.

Goliad did not take long to respond and scored eight runs in the bottom of the 4th inning and then the game went scoreless for the rest of the game to get a final score of 8-1. The Cards used four different pitchers in game two, Tribe, Neumann, Lane Kulhanek and Kannon Rooks all combined their efforts on the mound for the Cards in game two.

They combined to pitch all six innings for the Cards giving up eight runs on nine hits while striking out three batters.

The loss effectively eliminates the Cardinals from the playoffs and ends their season in the Bi-District round.
