The Weimar track team had only one athlete compete in the state track meet at the University of Texas’ track in Austin. That one athlete is coming back to Weimar as a state champion.
Katharina Chaloupka won the state championship in the pole vault event where she cleared a height of 12’6”. This is six inches higher than 2nd place and it was also six inches higher than her jump that won the regional championship earlier this year.
“Katharina Chaloupka (KC) is an amazingly talented athlete but the greatest part about her is her competitive spirit. When the lights come on, she is a true competitor and shines in those moments,” Weimar Head Track Coach Terra Griffin said.
In addition to winning the state championship Chaloupka also set a new person record to leave her mark on the Weimar track team in her senior season.
“We are incredibly proud of her and all that she has accomplished. Our program is better today because of all that she has done and the inspiration that she has provided. We now have girls in the program that have seen it and believe that they too can be there. KC has brought that belief and confidence to the program. We are deeply going to miss the impact she has made,” Griffin said.
