The Columbus Lady Cardinals swept the Orange Grove Lady Bulldogs to advance in the playoffs to round four.
It was a three-game series that saw the Lady Cards win back-to-back games by a combined score of 20-3 in those two games.
@ Orange Grove, W, 8-3 In game one the Lady Cards opened the scoring in the 1st inning where they scored one run. They followed that up with three runs in the 2nd inning followed by one more run in the 3rd inning.
This gave the Lady Cards a 5-0 lead going into the 4th inning and no runs were scored in the 4th and 5th inning. The Lady Cards extended their lead by three runs in the 6th inning to take an 8-0 lead before the Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the 7th to end the shutout bid.
Mia Post, Ellie Brown and Molly Garcia all hit doubles on their way to a victory in game one while Abigail Wiggs hit the game’s only home run. Post was also in the circle for the Lady Cards, and she pitched all seven innings giving up three runs on two hits while walking three batters and striking out 11 of them.
The Lady Cards were now only one win away from advancing to round four and they carried the momentum from game one’s win into game two.
Vs. Orange Grove, W, 12- 0 In game two it took the Lady Cards only five innings to secure the win and just like in game one they jumped out an early lead. The Lady Cards scored three runs in the 1st inning and followed that up with four runs in both of the 2nd and 3rd inning and then one more run in the 4th inning.
Aggie Rodriguez, Kaylea Foster, Allie Cranek and Ella Berger all hit doubles in game two while it was Post who hit the game’s only home run. Cranek also pitched three innings for the Lady Cards before being relieved by McKenna Eden.
Cranek gave up zero runs on three hits while walking two batters and striking out one of them. Eden came in and struck out four batters while walking one and giving up zero hits.
The win allowed the Lady Cards to advance in the playoffs where they are set to match up with Bishop in the Regional Finals on Thursday, May 15, at Kenedy High School at 6 p.m.
