COLORADO COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT

Sheriff’s Report

SATURDAY, FEB. 1

At approximately 2:40 p.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to the 3000 block of FM 2434, Columbus, for property damage. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case is active.

SUNDAY, FEB. 2

At approximately 1:20 p.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to the 1300 block of Reese Lane, Columbus, for an information call. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case is cleared.

MONDAY, FEB. 3

At approximately 8:07 a.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the 1200 block of Bernardo Road, Bernardo, in regards to theft. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case is active.

At approximately 9:54 a.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the 100 block of Grove Street, Alleyton, in regards to an abandoned vehicle. After further investigation, the abandoned vehicle was discovered to be involved in an accident causing property damage but the victim did not wish to prosecute criminal charges. Case cleared.

At approximately 2:27 p.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the 100 block of Private Road 10, Weimar, in regards to an unwanted person. After further investigation, the unwanted person was cited with a Criminal Trespass Warning. Case is cleared.

At approximately 1:48 p.m., deputy Mican was dispatched to the 1000 block of Schmidt Road, Fayetteville, in reference to a missing cow. The complainant reported her cow had been missing since January 23, 2025 and the case was turned over to the Cattle Rangers. Case information only.

At approximately 3:53 p.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the 2700 black of SH 71, Columbus, in regards to a mental health crisis. After further investigation, the subject was screened by Texana and transported to the Texana Crisis Center via Emergency Detention Order. Case is cleared.

At approximately 5:05 p.m., deputy Smith was dispatched to 1000 Jerrell Coffee Road in Columbus in reference to a mental subject. After further investigation, the subject was screened by Texana and transported to Voyages of Sugar Land for further evaluation. Case cleared.

At approximately 6:08 p.m., deputy Leihardt was dispatched to the 1400 block of FM 109, New Ulm, in reference to an assault. After further investigation, it was found that no assault had occurred and the parties had already separated. Case information only.

TUESDAY, FEB. 4

At approximately 2:00 p.m., deputy Smith was dispatched to the 100 block of Laughlin Road in Eagle Lake in reference to a stolen vehicle. After further investigation, the vehicle was returned to the owner prior to law enforcement contact and the victim did not wish to pursue charges. Case cleared.

At approximately 6:24 p.m., deputy Leihardt was dispatched to the 400 block of Boulden Street in Garwood in reference to an open door found at the residence. After further investigation, information was received and determined no items were missing from the household. Case is active.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 5

At approximately 12:56 p.m., deputy Thomas was dispatched to the 2300 block of Cat Spring Road, Cat Spring, in reference to found property. After further investigation the found property was recovered and a report was taken. Case is active.

At approximately 6:18 p.m., deputy Melendez was dispatched to the 1000 of FM 1291 in Fayetteville in reference to an unwanted subject. After further investigation, Heather Jurecka, age 44, of Fayetteville, was taken into custody for Violation of a Protection Order - Misdemeanor “A”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

THURSDAY, FEB. 6

At approximately 11:45 p.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to the 5500 block of W 4th Street, Sheridan, for a mental subject. After further investigation, information was received and determined the subject did not meet the requirements to be evaluated by Texana or detained on an Emergency Detention Order. Case is information only.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to the 3300 block of FM 102, Eagle Lake, for a possible 911 hang up. After further investigation, it was determined as assault had occurred at the residence with the victim not wanting to prosecute charges and parties separated. Case cleared.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., deputy Machac while patrolling near the intersection of State Highway 71 South and FM Road 333, Garwood, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. After further investigation, Stephanie Barten, age 35, of Glidden, Tx, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG3 <28G - Misdemeanor “A”, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon- Misdemeanor “A”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

At approximately 3:54 p.m., deputy Leihardt was dispatched to the 1000 block of Huebel Lane, Columbus, in reference to a follow up on estray exotic fowl. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case cleared.

FRIDAY, FEB. 7

At approximately 11:23 p.m., deputy Smith was dispatched to the 1400 block of CR 253 in Weimar regarding a theft. After further investigation, information was received and a warrant was issued on the suspect for this case. Kristen Burtchell, age 26, of Schulenburg, was later arrested on the warrant for Aggravated Robbery - Felony 1. Case cleared by adult arrest.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., deputy Lopez was dispatched to the 1300 block of Old Altair Road, Eagle Lake, in reference to Harassment. After further investigation, information was received and determined the parties spoke with the school district and handled the problems civilly. Case cleared.

SATURDAY, FEB. 8

At approximately 4:18 a.m., deputy Lopez was in Eagle Lake assisting Eagle Lake PD scene security for a shots fired call. While Eagle Lake PD was conducting their investigation, he observed a vehicle almost strike an Eagle Lake PD Officer in the roadway conducting their investigation. The driver of the vehicle was issued citations and the vehicle was towed from the scene. Case cleared.

At approximately 10:48 a.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to a property at the intersection of County Road 96 and Prairie Chicken Road, Bernardo, regarding livestock poaching. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case is inactive.

At approximately 10:56 p.m., deputy Johnson was dispatched to the 200 block of Braden Street, Garwood, in reference to a medical emergency call. After further investigation, it was determined the subject was injured during an assault but denied prosecution. Case is still active pending further investigation.

SUNDAY, FEB. 9

At approximately 1:13 a.m., deputy Leihardt while patrolling in the area of Hwy 90A near the 4-way in Altair, he conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. After further investigation, Claudio Aaron Gonzalez, age 23, of Eagle Lake, Tx, was arrested for Violation of Protective Order - Misdemeanor “A”. Case cleared by adult arrest.
