The Weimar Ladycats defeated the Burton Lady Panthers in back-to-back games to advance to the Regional Finals.
It was a three-game series that saw the Ladycats sweep the Lady Panthers with scores of 7-3 and 6-0.
In game one the Ladycats opened the scoring in the first inning where they scored one run thanks to a single from Claire Pavlu that drove home a run. The Ladycats scored one more run in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 2-0.
They scored two runs in the fifth inning to hold a 4-0 lead going into the sixth inning. Both teams scored three runs in the sixth to make the score 7-3 and the Ladycats were able to close the game out shortly after that.
Offensively the Ladycats bats stayed hot as Sam Rangel and Taylor Smith both hit doubles, and Zariah Sims hit a triple. Smith also hit a home run in game one to help her team secure the victory.
The trio of Rangel, Smith and Sims combined for a total of five RBIs between them with the other two coming from Pavlu and Ty’Rianna Rhodes.
In addition to being great on offense Smith was also in the circle for the Ladycats and she pitched all seven innings for the Ladycats. She gave up three runs on five hits while walking three batters and striking out 13 batters.
The Ladycats carried this momentum into game two where the Ladycats held the Lady Panthers off the scoreboard. The Ladycats won game two by a score of 6-0 and with that win they earned a spot in the Regional Finals.
The Regional Finals put the Ladycats one step closer to yet another State Championship appearance. In the Regional Final the Ladycats are set to take on a familiar foe with a Regional Championship on the line.
The Ladycats will be taking on District rival, Shiner, in the Regional Final so this will be a high-flying series with more than just a Regional Championship on the line.
