A View of Columbus through rose colored glasses

A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses

This article is dedicated to acknowledge the examples of positives that express the community spirit of Columbus – our town.

Showtime at Beasons Park – Lions Club Rolling Hills Challenge Bike riders from the state converged on Columbus Saturday, May 10. Perhaps you remember that the Columbus Lions Club has sponsored a grand bike ride for many years.

The first ride was introduced by Dr Tom Hancher over thirty years ago. Riders have a choice to ride routes of 25, 50, 62, or one hundred miles. Lions prepare and “man” nine rest stops along the way. They are at 12 mile intervals.

They offer refreshments and hydrating fluids as well as a porta-can facility. There are 13 Support and Gear (SAG) rovers on these routes. Their job is to be a safety valve for assistance and support for a breakdown or any other mishap.

This year’s overall corporate sponsor was Cavender Auto Country. Other generous local sponsors include Mikeska BBQ, Dairy Cone and Walmart.

James Yearwood is the Chairman of the Bike Ride Committee. He is the one responsible for all the preparation to make the Bike Ride a successful event. The Club proudly has 102 members.

Riders were interviewed after the ride.

The majority mentioned the beautiful scenery, the helpful spirit of the people, and the crowned jewel Lionberger as being the highlights. This event is exemplary of the Columbus Lions Club living up to their motto of “We Serve.”
