COLORADO COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT

Sheriff’s Report

MONDAY, FEB. 10

At approximately 3:51 a.m., deputy Leihardt was dispatched to the intersection of Fm 532 and CR 2144, Weimar, in reference to a motor vehicle accident. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case information only.

At approximately 2:01 p.m., deputy Thomas was dispatched to the 1700 block of CR 218, Columbus, in reference to an unwanted subject. After further investigation, it was determined by deputies that this was a civil matter between both parties and a trespass warning was issued. Case is cleared.

At approximately 11:55 p.m., deputy Byars was dispatched to the 4000 block of US Hwy 90, Columbus, in reference to a vehicle fire. On arrival, he met with the vehicle’s driver and gathered enough information to generate a report. Case cleared information only.

TUESDAY, FEB. 11

At approximately 3:00 p.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to a theft at the location near Hatterman Lane, Weimar, Tx. After further investigation, it led to the arrest of Estaban Chavez Jr., age 37, of Columbus, Tx, for Resisting Arrest Search or Transport - Misdemeanor “A” and Failure to Identify - Misdemeanor “C”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., deputy Chapa met with a complainant in the Sheriff’s Office Lobby in reference to harassment in the 100 block of Center Street, Alleyton, Tx. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case information only.

At approximately 5:03 p.m., deputy Melendez was dispatched to the 100 block of Olive Branch Street, Glidden, in reference to estray livestock. After further investigation, the livestock were transported to the auction barn, where the owner was later located. Case cleared.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 12

At approximately 4:31 p.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the 1200 block of Henneke Road, Bernardo, regarding a suspicious vehicle. After further investigation, the vehicle was determined to be abandoned and stolen out of Kemah, Tx and recovered without incident. Case cleared.

THURSDAY, FEB. 13

At approximately 1:30 p.m., deputy Lopez was dispatched to the jail in reference to a mental health crisis. The inmate was transported to a psychiatric facility for treatment. The inmate was placed on a Sheriff’s Office detainer and ultimately brought back to the jail after treatment was complete. Case is cleared.

At approximately 3:44 p.m., deputy Leihardt was dispatched to the 1700 block of FM 2437 in Sheridan in reference to possible livestock cruelty. After further investigation, the livestock were later sold where they would get the correct care needed. Case is cleared.

FRIDAY, FEB. 14

At approximately 8:38 a.m., deputy Thomas was dispatched to the 200 block of Ridgeview Drive, Bernardo, in reference to theft. A report was generated with this case remaining active, pending further investigation.

At approximately 1:52 p.m., deputy Thomas was dispatched to a public service in reference to a theft in the 1100 block of CR 200, Weimar, Tx. After further investigation, information was received and determined the item was not stolen. Case cleared.

At approximately 5:07 p.m., deputy Melendez was dispatched to the 5000 block of W Seventh Street, Sheridan, in reference to criminal mischief and criminal trespass. After further investigation, information was received and a warrant was issued in reference to this case. Case is active.

SATURDAY, FEB. 15

At approximately 11:00 a.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to a public service in reference to property damage and theft in the 1900 block of CR 114, Garwood, Tx. After further investigation, information was received and determined the victim did not wish to pursue charges. Case cleared.

TUESDAY, FEB. 18

At approximately 12:23 p.m., deputy Lopez was dispatched to Texana in reference to a mental health transport. The subject was transported to the designated psychiatric facility for treatment.

At approximately 10:16 p.m., deputy Blaha was dispatched to the 4400 block of Hwy 90, Alleyton, in reference to gun shots being heard. After further investigation, information was received and determined the complainant was unwilling to cooperate with the investigation. Case information only.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 19

At approximately 10:07 a.m., deputy Lopez was dispatched to the Colorado County Jail in reference to an incarcerated inmate experiencing a mental health crisis. The inmate was evaluated by Texana and transported to a hospital for treatment with a detainer. The inmate was later released back to our custody and released to jail staff without incident. Case cleared.

At approximately 4:15 p.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to the 1200 block of Business 71, Columbus, in reference to a stolen vehicle. After further investigation, information was received and a stolen vehicle was recovered without incident. Case information only.

THURSDAY, FEB. 20

At approximately 8:52 p.m., deputy Melendez conducted a traffic stop in the 4400 block of Highway 71 in Columbus. After further investigation, Brandy Chovanetz, age 52, of Sheridan, Tx, was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated - Misdemeanor “B” and Resisting Arrest Search or Transport - Misdemeanor “A”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

FRIDAY, FEB. 21

At approximately 6:31 p.m., deputy Leihardt was dispatched to the lobby of the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a terroristic threat that occurred in the 2800 block of US 90A, Rock Island, Tx. After further investigation, it was determined that no crime had been committed at this time. Case closed by information report.

SATURDAY, FEB. 22

At approximately 4:05 a.m., deputy Blaha while patrolling Beason’s Park, near Columbus, checked out a suspicious vehicle. After further investigation, Justina Torres, age 37, and Giovanni Rodriguez, age 45, both of Columbus, Tx, were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1/1-B>4G<200G - Felony 2. Case cleared by adult arrest.

At approximately 11:32 a.m., deputy Johnson was dispatched to the 1000 block of CR 212, Weimar, in reference to a burglary. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case is active.

SUNDAY, FEB. 23

At approximately 7:40 p.m., deputy Blaha was dispatched to the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office in reference to identity theft that occurred in the 1500 block of San Felipe Road, New Ulm, Tx. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken for information only. Case cleared.

At approximately 10:04 p.m., deputy Frey while patrolling near the 3900 block of US Hwy 90, Alleyton, he conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. After further investigation, Courtney Servantes, age 43, of Columbus, Tx, was arrested for two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1<1G - State Jail Felony. Case cleared by adult arrest.

MONDAY, FEB. 24

At approximately 7:30 a.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to the TA Truck Stop located at the 6000 block of US 90 Hwy Sealy, Tx, for a possible theft. Case open.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., deputy Chapa, while patrolling the 2900 block of FM 109, located an abandoned package near the roadway. After further investigation, found property was recovered and pending release to the owner. Case active.

TUESDAY, FEB. 25

At approximately 12:14 a.m., deputy Chapa was dispatched to the 1100 block of CR 2103, Weimar, in reference to an assault. After further investigation, information was received and a warrant was issued for the suspect. Case active.

At approximately 1:11 p.m., deputy Lopez was dispatched to the Sheriff’s Office lobby in reference to a complainant wanting a criminal trespass warning on two subjects near the 2500 block of Lupton Street, Rock Island, Tx. After further investigation, information was received and trespass warnings were served on two individuals.

Case cleared.

At approximately 1:28 p.m., deputy Thomas was dispatched to the Sheriff’s Office Lobby in reference to a fraud in the 1000 block of Annette Drive, Columbus, Tx. After further investigation, information was gathered, with a report generated for information only. Case cleared.

At approximately 7:59 p.m., deputy Chapa was dispatched to the 400 block of Canal Street, Garwood, in reference to a mental subject. The mental subject was transported to the Texana Crisis Center for treatment. Case cleared information only.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 26

At approximately 11:02 a.m., deputy Smith was dispatched to Columbus Community Hospital in reference to an accidental gunshot wound that occurred on FM 109 near Columbus, Tx. After further investigation, information was received and determined to be an accidental, non life threatening, self inflicted gunshot wound. Case is cleared.

At approximately 9:13 a.m., deputy Moulder was dispatched to the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office Lobby in reference to child endangerment. A report was taken. Case active.

FRIDAY, FEB. 28

At approximately 5:00 a.m., deputy Frey was dispatched to the area of US Hwy 90A and the Railroad Crossing, in reference to a vehicle striking the railroad crossing arm. After further investigation, no driver or vehicle was located that caused the damage, and the damage was reported to Union Pacific. Case information only.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to the area near County Road 79 and FM 3013, Eagle Lake, for illegal dumping. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case is active.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., deputy Melendez was dispatched to the 100 block of Shult Drive in Columbus in reference to a follow up to a housed inmate with injuries. After further investigation, information was received and determined no injuries occurred while the inmate was within Colorado County Jail. Case information only.

At approximately 7:07 p.m., deputy Byars was dispatched to the area of FM 109 and Kansteiner Road, Columbus, in reference to a motor vehicle accident. After further investigation, Robert Duncan, age 64, Abilene, Tx, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or more - Felony 3. Case cleared by adult arrest.

At approximately 11:51 p.m., deputy Lopez while patrolling US 90A in Altair ocnducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. After further investigation, John James White, age 29, of Galveston, Tx, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana <5lbs >4oz - State Jail Felony, Unlawful Carrying Weapon - Misdemeanor “A”, Possession of Controlled Substance PG 2>4G<200G - Felony 2, and an out of county Felony warrant. Case cleared by adult arrest.
