Ladycats eliminated in Regional Finals

The Weimar Ladycats were defeated in the Regional Finals after they were defeated by the Shiner Lady Comanches.

The Regional Finals were a three-game series and the Ladycats dropped back-to-back games which eliminated from the playoffs.

Game 1: @ Shiner, 6-3, L In game one of the series the Lady Comanches opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. They scored two runs, but the Ladycats quickly tied the game in the top of the third inning with two runs of their own.

The Lady Comanches broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning where they scored four runs. The carried a 6-2 lead into the seventh and final inning where the Ladycats had their last opportunity to get themselves back in the game.

The Ladycats scored once more in the seventh inning to bring the game to its final score of 6-3.

Offensively the Ladycats were led by Tate Griffin who hit a triple and Sam Rangel who hit a double. Meanwhile in the circle Taylor Smith pitched all six innings and gave up six runs on nine hits while striking out nine batters in game one.

The Ladycats knew game two was going to be a must-win and they wanted to come out firing an all cylinders in game two.

Game two: Vs. Shiner, 17-12, L In game two the Lady Comanches opened the scoring again as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Ladycats responded in the bottom of the first inning by scoring seven runs to take the lead.

The Ladycats enjoyed the lead for a short time though because in the top of the second the Lady Comanches scored eight runs to take an 11-7 lead. The Lady Comanches extended their lead by five more runs in the top of the fourth inning to hold a 16-7 lead before the bottom of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Ladycats scored three more runs to cut into the Lady Comanches’ lead. Then in the bottom of the fifth the Ladycats scored two more runs to go into the sixth inning with a score of 1612.

Then in the seventh the Lady Comanches scored the final run of the game to end the eliminate the Ladycats in the Regional Finals.

Offensively the likes of Tate Griffin, Clarie Pavlu, MJ Griffin, Sam Rangel, Ty’ Rianna Rhodes and Taylor Smith all hit doubles and combined for seven RBIs.

Smith was once again back in the circle for the Ladycats, and she pitched all seven innings and struck out four batters throughout the game.

The Ladycats season comes to an end before they would have liked it and no doubt look to get back to the Regional Finals next season.
