Rice Consolidated senior RJ Myers is heading to the University of Texas at Tyler on a full scholarship.
“He is a great kid, I am proud of him and I am glad he is getting an opportunity to continue his track career,” Rice Consolidated Athletic Director Brad Dumont said.
Over the last three-year Myers has made it to the State Championship Meet. Myers has impressed all season long as a shot-put thrower so much so that he ended the year by collecting a bronze medal at the State Track Meet.
While Myers is known for being a great athlete his leadership abilities are held in an even higher regard. His coaches could not say enough good things about him as a person and his teammates look up to him as a role model.
His presence in the locker room will be missed heavily because he is one of those players that when he talks in the locker room people listen. Rice’s Head Track Coach Darrell Engelbrecht echoed this at Myers’ signing.
“We are going to miss him and appreciate everything he has done for the athletic program over here in all four sports but especially track,” Engelbrecht said. “He will be missed, and we wish him well at UT-Tyler.”
Congratulations to Myers on getting this opportunity to continue his track career at the colligate level.
